The quality of this AI music blew me away too. Compared to the previous AI stuff I've heard before, this seemed a lot more natural and sweet. I wondered if I could "fix" the pronunciation glitches, and missing words, etc, so I attempted a fix. I posted a version on my channel profile, with links back to here.

I use Udio a lot, what I'd like is to generate a custom length per clip (not 30 sec forced) and also to go in afterwards and "replace the singer" (but keep the melody) or the other way around. Maybe to replace a chord somewhere afterwards etc. I bet we will get some better features throughout the year, but right now you need to work for hours to get something actually good (not just "correct", but actually good)

I preferred your rendition, because I perceive more brokenness in it. So to me it has more significant emotional engagement. I am oriented towards folk music or at least folk like music. That is, music that tells a story, especially a significantly personal story. So, this comes out in genres not specifically thought of as folk though. For example, Fleetwood Macs stories of the relationships & trials, these are essentially folk like themes. Simon & Garfunkel protest era songs. Not Mrs Robinson though, but pretty much everything else. Don Mclean.... then of course folk like Steeleye Span Rock & real folk. To me, the lyrics are King, they are the story & meaning. I hate the trend in recent decades to compress everything up the the came level as if the vocal is just another instrument & the words meaningless & lost. To me, that is just pointless noise, it doesn't engage my soul at all. But your song does & your lyrics & your rendition of them does as well. Technical perfection actually masks emotion but emotion breaks that mask & makes it personal. Maybe that's just me though.

It’s weird arguing with the artist with their own creation, but that song was ENTIRELY yours. You searched for the sound to match what YOU were seeking, and expanded on it until it became a full song. Futhermore, “your” version, when using your own voice and instrument, was also beautiful. “Cover songs” are already an existing concept; you may just have stumbled upon a new approach of “first hand covers” as opposed to “not being the original.” I do think you’re on to something with the future of creating music, but I think you’re being too selfless in not seeing how being the creator of the song still makes YOU that artist.

This is the kind of video I wanted to see. I learned about udio some weeks ago and I immediately undusted my writer skills and started adding my lyrics to AI music I resonated with. The lyrics were personal, and in a few hours I had a song. Then, some days later I started writing the lyrics for a song about a very personal and sad moment in my life. Listening to it being sang back to me was incredible, it was a chatgpt moment for me. I subscribed to the service. I’m currently on the process of finishing that song. I have 0 music skills except ears and personal taste. In the meantime I couldn’t help but thinking “I wish I had more control, I wish I could change individual instruments, I wish I could edit the music just as I can edit the lyrics, I wish I was able to produce more quality sound”. All that’s coming, for sure.,. And then it hit me, while that would be great, that’s not how this will be used right now. The way it will be used is to generate something that then can be corrected and played by real musicians. If I knew how to play the guitar, how to sing, I would do it. But it is obvious studios will do it that way, create the base idea and then hire musicians to get it to the finish line. That’s how independent musicians will do it too. One thing I also understood is that now I have a huge incentive to learn a lot of things. Small effort will get me really far in terms of writing my own music. And yes, it is your own music. And this video is really insightful. Thank you.

Simply put, songs that are generated with AI should be marked as such. The same way we stick an 'E' against explicit content we could simply put AI but it should be noted.

Basically, AI is just a tool. It's your song. It truly doesn't matter if AI helped in the creation of it, nor is it useful for you to feel guilt over it. You (a human being) made the important decisions in its creation; about what was right or wrong. And in the end, that's what underpins creativity and ultimately what genuinely becomes "art". The lyrics are beautiful and wonderfully imagery based. It's poetry really. I can't say I understand what all the lyrics mean, although I know it speaks of love, a relationship, and something that needs to be said. Even still, it makes me wonder and puts me deep in thought. People will value and seek out music made by humans more. If you can show that you made the music instead of a machine, like performing an instrument on video for example, then you'll get more respect. AI surely has the ability to generate interesting music other than the generic, that we have not heard before, and I'll be curious to hear it. But ultimately it's just a machine running a program - art is about connecting to a human artist who is expressing something human. How will it be novel or original if it is designed to create sounds that it 'knows' will sound good because it's sounded good before? Will AI ever write protest music? Free jazz? Only if you tell it too, because it doesn't care. People want to connect to human expression, thus real artists will be valued more if we end up in a sea AI generated music. I found the AI version of the song to be generic and uninteresting. The human version was instantly engaging. Back in the 00's chess playing computers finally became stronger than the human world champion, since then they've become so strong that human being has any kind of chance against them. At the time some in the chess world worried that humans would become obsolete and that we'd be watching programs play against each other. What happened? Nobody cares about the computer program chess tournaments, everyone still cares about the top 10 human players battling it out - because people relate to the human struggle and want to share it. Ok chess and music not the same thing but still, something to think about...

I'm impressed with the AI melody, but I still prefer to write my own music. Essentially, you have a co-written song and, if the music suits your intentions for the lyrics, then it works. I provide music for a lot of lyricists and would perform the resulting songs as my own creations because, as you say, the audience doesn't care who wrote it. I think you can do the same. When it comes to performance, I actually preferred your rendition to the AI version. To my ear, it had more soul, more personal connection.

No matter what you can pull positive out of this.. it is UNEQUIVOCALLY a cancer to the idea of creative, creation. I'm a full-time musician and singer/songwriter first.. content creator here second. The worst part may not even be that the performance itself is totally artificial but rather, our brains are going to stop trying to create if we allow usage of this technology, in this way, to get too far from us. It's a completely depressing proposition.

A good song is a good song, and as a guy who sang cover songs for many years I tried to sing them as if they were my own. I tried to breathe my own life and my own interpretation into them. This song is far more your song than a cover song would be. The AI was inspired, if you will, by your lyrics. At most it's a collab. Elton John doesn't mention that Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics to every song he performs live. If what you have is a worthwhile work of art then it is worthwhile performing it, and it will stand on its own, no commentary necessary. The performance itself is an art, and that is your own entirely.

I really liked the song, both versions. I'm not over precious about the AI thing in general. It's another step on from the Stock Aitken Waterman bullshit we had to suffer in the olden days. Except this is actually a nice song. On another note, on the odd occasion I've been stuck at starting a song I have entered into ChatGPT something like "lyrics and chords in the style of The Betles (sic)". This will usually generate an appalling lyric and some stock chords, but it's usually enough to get me out of my rut - and by the time I've finished the song, it's nothing like the original anyway. All the best.

The AI one sounded very bland, I hate that generic cursive type singing- The lyrics really, really stood out for me though, I think the bland sound made me focus more on the lyrics than I would normally. Much prefer your version, it was great (don't think lyrics that good need tons of emotion in the vocal performance, anyway) 🎤👍

It’s a bit like the way that my dad used to complain that using an electric guitar was cheating because a “real” guitar would never sound like an electric one. But then he heard Mark Knopfler play “Sultans of Swing” and it all changed for him. The thing that I like about your video is that you highlighted the collaboration between a human and an AI working together on this song. It’s a beautiful song, and the AI wouldn’t have been able to create that song without you. Idk if AI will write lyrics down the road and create music that way but to be honest I think that it would be brilliant if it did. Like, wow! How amazing would that be? The fact that the AI was able to interpret the lyrics and add the right emotions to the music is nothing short of phenomenal. I’m GenX, in case that’s a statistic that matters to whether people are gonna love or hate AI. Can you imagine the reaction people would have had back in the 80s if you told them that original digital watches would eventually lead to AI that could create music and art? It’s just so cool! I disagree that this isn't your song, just because it was inspired by Ai. imagine you went into the woods and heard the birds sing, and some combination of animal sounds, in nature, you heard a melody come out of the woods, you didn't create it, the animals did, but your ears heard it and remembered it. it still belongs to you. because it was your ears and mind that made the choices, that those lyrics belonged together. ai is barely different than some random melody coming from animals in the woods. it is the inspiration that matters, and your ears are making those choices.
